I purchased this cleaver on Amazon to cut through chicken bones, to make the pieces smaller, to make it easier for my dog to eat the pieces.
(Don't worry, chicken bones are safe for dogs if they are RAW. I'm feeding my dog the raw chicken with bones on the recommendation of my vet. Check out books on raw food diets for dogs.)

This cleaver easily cut through the bones where it was extraordinarily difficult with a regular kitchen knife. The cleaver is small and light, so I'm not sure how it would work cutting through, say, beef bones. But for my task, it works perfectly!

LamsonSharp's Rosewood series stamped cutlery feature oiled rosewood handles that are extremely durable. The blades are one-piece full tang, made from hardened and tempered high-carbon stainless steel from the USA. The blades are also taper-ground, polish
With the profile of a sperm whale, this broad-nosed knife is more than a curio. This knife may not be used often, but when you need to hack something to bits (or make chicken cacciatore), there really is no better tool. The LamsonSharp cleaver blade is made of high-carbon stainless steel and honed by hand so that it can sever most bones without shattering them. The full tang--which means the blade extends all the way through the handle--adds heft and balance to the cleaver. Although rosewood handles are dishwasher-safe, it is best to hand wash fine cutlery like this in warm, soapy water. Oil the handle occasionally with food-grade mineral oil to maintain the traditional luster. --Edward Skoog
